NC Noose Bill Passes 113-1

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 01:43:00 AM PDT

The North Carolina house passed a bill boosting criminal penalties for burning a cross or hanging a noose in an attempt at racial intimidation by a vote of 113-1.

More info on the bill Here

The lone dissenting vote came from Republican Paul "Skip" Stam. Stam is one of the most extreme rightwing Republicans in the NC house.

Ed Ridpath is challenging Skip Stam in NC House District 37.  Ed has released a statement slamming skip for his vote.

Momma's Voting For Obama

Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 07:58:18 AM PDT

I just got an email from my older brother who lives in the western part of PR.  He is on his way to pick up my 80 year old mom and they will both vote for Obama today.

It's kind of shocking cause I had pegged her as not being an Obama supporter.  We had talked about the primary a couple of times but I really didn't want to get into it with her.

My brother is a hard core lefty Independentista.  I understand they are doing some type of boycott but he feels it's too important an occasion to pass up.  Mom has always been PPD (status quo).  I also talked to by cousin who is PNP (Statehooder) and also voting for Obama. It looks like Obama is pulling support across the entire spectrum.

I will be interested in any exit polling that shows how the candidates split the demographics. My people are from the rural mountainous part of the island.

VT, TX, OH, RI Please ObamaCycle

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 04:30:34 PM PDT

There is a delay of several weeks to purchase Obama gear from the campaign store.

ObamaCycle

The Obamacycle website will allow you to find folks that need your excess campaign material in the upcoming primary states.  If you have excess material check the forums here and send your material to those that need it.

I have used this site to receive several hundreds of dollars worth of material.  I shipped some of it to TX and PA and have used the remainder locally.

Hopefully this primary season ends in the next week, but just in case please redistribute your campaign swag.

Clarkies Who do You Support Now? w/Poll

Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 04:33:43 PM PDT

I was a diehard Clark supporter in 2004 and was hoping he would announce for 08. Once April passed it seemed to me that Wes would not run and I threw my support behind Obama with Edwards as a second choice.  I had donated to Clarks ActBlue Draft Fund and its good to see that the $5703 collected so far will go to the DNC.

I am interested in which candidates Clark supporters will go to now that we know for sure that Wes is not running.

There is a poll below but since it us sure to be stuffed please also indicate your choice in the comments.

New VoteVets Ad with Wesley Clark.

Wed May 16, 2007 at 06:07:56 PM PDT

Just got this email from Wes Clark:

Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

It was 2005 in Afghanistan. Marines were ambushed. Men were being hit. Army artillery officer Mike Breen, and his unit, were holding off the enemy, but they were running out of ammunition. Breen kept calling for helicopters to re-supply them, but the helicopters never came.

Where were the helicopters?

This is the question the third and final ad of the "Generals" series by VoteVets.org asks.

AP: Edwards says Obama Should Run in 08

Mon Nov 20, 2006 at 03:40:51 AM PDT

Was just checkin the local news on WRAL.COM and saw this article about Edwards Here.

JE was interviewed in SC during his book tour and he says it would be a good idea for Obama to enter the 2008 race:

"I hope he runs. I think he should run," Edwards told The Associated Press. "This is such an important job that I would urge anybody who can make a serious contribution to the campaign and the dialogue either in our party or the other party to run."

GOP Fundraising Call

Thu Jan 12, 2006 at 04:34:12 PM PDT

I just received a fundraising call from the GOP and was asked for a $100 donation to help keep Republican control of Congress in 06. I was thanked for being a loyal supporter and my past contributions (LOL)

I informed the called that there was a local issue that precluded me from making any donations to the GOP until the matter is resolved.

The caller then asked what the issue was. I told the person that a local GOP congressmen (I live in NC)was refusing to return dirty money from a lobbyist. The caller feigned ignorance and asked for more information.  I told the caller that Rep. Charles Taylor was refusing to return dirty money from Abramoff.  More info  Here

Cruel War

Sat Aug 20, 2005 at 01:30:27 PM PDT

OK so I'm sitting here waxing philosophical  about whats going on with this crazy world and images are just flashing by,  Cindy's heroic vigil, Chimp on a Bike, bombings in Iraq and all of my sudden my mind transports me back to the 60's.
Now I was in elementary school during the 60's so while I remember the VietNam war I was not really interested in what was going on, I cared more about the next Lost in Space episode.  I did remember a song that has always stuck in the back of my mind, something about a woman wanting to deploy to war with her man. Anyway I was sitting here trying to remember the lyrics and just a few words come to me

I want to be with him, it grieves my heart so

Thanks to google I did find the song, its "Cruel War" by Peter Paul and Mary.  As we send our love ones off to fight I think the song is appropriate. Does anyone else remember this. The lyrics are below the fold. Itunes has 4 renditions by different artists.

Interesting article in the  NY Daily News about the regional disparities in Federal Spending and how NYC is getting ripped off

By DOUGLAS FEIDEN
DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORTER

Washington has a long and shameful history of telling New York City to "drop dead." It just happened again: Big Apple-bashing pols dramatically shortchanged 8 million New Yorkers - denying vital funds to the poor and the middle class, the infirm and the elderly.

This could just be coincidental, but I was floored when I read this article and saw the mug shots from a link on WRAL today.

Cary 10 Most Wanted

"We know these folks are out there, and with your help we can take them off the streets before more violence occurs," said Captain Dave Wulff, head of the Town of Cary Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit.

"For President Bush to send Rudolph Giuliani out on television to say that the 'actual responsibility' for the failure to secure explosives lies with the troops is insulting and cowardly.

Buchanan on Iraq

Fri Oct 15, 2004 at 03:02:20 PM PDT

How Do We Get Out?

Pat Buchanan delivers an Iraq Smackdown

"Today, we lack metrics to know if we are winning or losing," wrote Rumsfeld a year ago. "Is our current situation such that `the harder we work, the behinder we get'?" We now have metrics to work with. A year ago, Gen. John Abizaid estimated there were 5,000 enemy fighters. After capturing and killing thousands, officials now estimate there are 20,000 enemy. A year ago, there were two dozen attacks every day on coalition forces. According to Kroll Security International, the number is now 70 a day. A year ago, U.S. troops had the run of the country and the press could travel almost anywhere. Now there are "no-go" zones in the Sunni Triangle, and Sadr City is a scene of daily carnage. Outside the Kurdish north, few provinces are free of daily attacks.

New Poll by WRAL, The News & Observer and WUNC-FM

This is sweet, lets hope for some reverse coattails.

Bush claims about Reserve GI Bill legislation not supported by actions

Wed Sep 15, 2004 at 01:54:08 AM PDT

Army Times

Full article with subscription only

President Bush told a National Guard Association convention in Las Vegas that he had asked Congress to increase Reserve GI Bill education benefits and was urging quick passage. But in fact, the administration has not asked Congress for anything along those lines -- and the lack of a specific proposal is holding up work on an omnibus veterans' benefits bill.

I can't believe how this guy can lie like this with a straight face in front of a military audience.
