Meet Your Neighbors On Election Night

Wed Oct 11, 2006 at 04:42:23 AM PDT

I'm hosting an election night party in my home for my neighbors.  Perhaps you can do something similar.  I'll also be putting up a "VOTE TODAY" sign on the road leading out of the neighborhood very early the morning of Nov 7th, and maybe even a series of "VOTE THIS COMING TUESDAY" signs in the days leading up to election day.

YearlyKos & World Cup 2006

Tue May 02, 2006 at 04:49:57 AM PDT

I took the plunge and registered for YearlyKos, but I'm not going to let my progressive political desires get in the way of World Cup 2006!  If there are any dKos members who will be at YearlyKos that would like to try to find a place to watch the games, let me know!

Organization and Game Schedules, below...

UPDATE: Looks like the general consensus is to wander over to the Hilton to watch the games in their sports book.

YearlyKos Singles

Mon May 01, 2006 at 07:51:10 PM PDT

Either the server that hosts the YearlyKos.org site is undergoing maintenance, right-blogosphere DOS attack, or everyone else had the same idea as I did tonight and registered for YearlyKos tonight.  I'm going for sure now, but I'm hunting around for YearlyKos singles.  Male, Female, Straight, Gay, whatever...  I'm not looking for a dating service, but just those of you who are going on your own so I'll be sure to have some entertainment.

Drinking, gambling, carrying on in an obnoxious way.  Those are the things I'm looking for.  What about you?

Republican Responds

Mon Sep 12, 2005 at 04:40:25 AM PDT

This is the fire and brimstone edition of the ongoing dialog with my Republican friend. He has drunk the family-size kool-aid and as I keep reminding everyone here, is generally a nice, caring person in all other respects. He has a nice family, cares about some of the same injustices as I do, isn't racist by any means and does good work in his profession.

However, this is some serious voodoo he's got going here and I'm interested in a discussion of his response. The theme of "opinion" in this reponse is puzzling to me, particularly the differences between fact, fiction, opinion. That's a new one for me. Post your theories here.

This is an attempt to understand the Republican mind and my friend here is one of the card-carrying members. He's also the only Republican I know that I can disagree and argue with without getting angry about it since he is generally a nice guy otherwise.

Repub Dialog Continues

I'm continuing the dialog with my Republican friend. The prior diary entries can be found here and here. This diary is my response to his response.

Repub Friend Responds

Thu Aug 25, 2005 at 05:44:12 AM PDT

Before you read my friend's response, please remember that he really is a pretty nice guy otherwise.

In response to one comment from my previous diary entry here where I respond to my friend's Cindy Sheehan-bashing e-mail, this dialog back and forth is absolutely normal and is not an angry argument.  He and I can disagree on this and discuss it without getting at each other's throats.  He is so reasonable in all other respects that I'm able to control my anger at these views of his where I would walk away from someone else.  We will go to dinner when he is in town and laugh and argue and have a grand merry old time.

His response to my e-mail is below.

My Response

Mon Aug 22, 2005 at 05:01:17 AM PDT

This diary is my first entry on dKos.  I'm posting this e-mail response to a Republican friend as a diary to spark discussion.  Based on some of the discussions on dKos that I've participated in and the very many where I was lurking in the shadows, I believe there are others like myself who like to fine-tune and even change their beliefs through honest debate and tiresome discussion.

For the last several years this country, and my tiny representative little piece of it, has been divided.  Divided so cleanly and clearly that all of our lives just grow to become separate.  My friends who are "Republican" have become more and more distant, and I end up just sitting around agreeing with all my liberal friends.  I'm hoping to increase the quality of my own views by posting this e-mail message to a Republican Friend diary entry to such a wide audience.
